“The Nature of My Destiny” with the subtitles “I Have Lived in Other Bodies” and “A Glimpse from the Present into the Past” is the title of a memoir by Dr. Amir Esmail Sandozi, written in his own words. Sandozi—a dentist, painter, sculptor, and man of letters—begins his book with this poignant note:
“In these writings, wherever you encounter the word ‘I’ (Man), please read it as ‘Nothing’ (Hich). This word, beyond representing ego (Maniyat), also implies ‘weight’ (Vazn). The author of this pen seeks neither to be an ‘I’ nor to be bound by weight. He is in the pursuit of thought-weaving, flight, becoming a point, union, and liberation from nothingness.”
Dr. Javad Mojabi regards him in the fields of painting and sculpture as an artist who transcends himself—one who works freely and passionately allows his sensory experiences to manifest. In an interview with Dr. Giti Shahidi, he describes the mystery of his writing process as follows: “An emotion, a need, or a force that wells up and flows like a spring. I only guide it so that it may go, run, flow, and pass until it reaches its desired permanence.”
Explaining the book’s subtitle, he says: “In relation to society and others, each human being can only be one person—possessing an identity they have fashioned for themselves or that society has bestowed upon them for various reasons. Yet, this same person, within themselves and their dreams, is not just one individual; they can harbor several entirely diverse and transformative personalities—real identities that differ from their social persona when revealed.”
The book was published on May 18, 2014, with a print run of 1,000 copies by “Irdan, the Dental Portal” in 800 pages. Its eleven chapters, titled with evocative headings, depict the ups and downs of this artist-dentist’s exemplary life through his unique prose style.
